ED HILT ...
MISSING AT
SUPER BOWL XXXIX

WE TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY
TO SHARE OUR THOUGHTS
ABOUT AC PRESS
SPORTS WRITER
ED HILT

I have known Ed Hilt for more than 25 years ... and, worked directly with him at The Press of Atlantic City (about that many years ago) ...

You really get to know a person when you work the 5:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. shift together ... helping to put out a sports section ...

First, Hilt is a total class act ... He has  demonstrated great civility and professionalism at all times ... He is well respected in all "circles" ... Hilt is a humble man, in a business which typically creates huge ego maniacs ... Hilt has covered the Philadelphia Professional sports beat in a high quality manner for many years ... His work is original, creative, thorough and always interesting ...

Additionally, Hilt is the Dean of The Press sports staff, in terms of years of service ... Only Sports Editor, Mike Shepherd has more consecutive years of service at Devins Lane ...

We find it inconceivable that Hilt would be left home and is not being given the opportunity to cover Super Bowl 39 ... He has waited his entire career for this chance ... And, he clearly deserves it!

We find it cruel that he would be denied the honor to cover the pinnacle of a sports writer's career ... to actually cover a Super Bowl ...

A well placed source has told us that Hilt wanted to go ... who wouldn't?

Further, we want to make it clear that we have not and will not directly contact Hilt regarding this matter ... This commentary is my own ... Hilt must be held harmless ... These are my words ... These are my feelings ...

I know many of the "players" involved ... I don't have a bad word to say about any of them ... However, I do know this ... Hilt was in line for this assignment ... He's earned it ... And, it is unthinkable to me that he would not get the gig!

This will come as a very small consolation ... But, we want to take this opportunity to congratulate Ed Hilt for his decades of consistent, high caliber work ...

And, while there is no way to replace the professional void that surely can never be filled ... We want the public to know that in our humble opinion, Ed Hilt should be in Jacksonville right now covering this incredible run by the Philadelphia Eagles ...

A trip to Jacksonville should have been his ... He's earned it ...

We want Hilt to know that he has our respect and admiration ...

He is a quiet and classy guy ... Frankly, (perhaps) these are the two main reasons that he's staying home this week ...
