Family Week at the Theatre

Saturday, March 5 through Sunday, March 13, 2005

Presents in association with Dante Hall Theater of the Arts,

Surflight Theatre’s production of

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

On Sunday, March 6, 2005 at 3:00pm

The New Jersey Theatre Alliance and Dante Hall Theater of the Arts will present Surflight Theatre’s production of Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day on Sunday, March 6, 2005 at 3:00pm. This performance is part of the 8th annual Family Week at the Theatre, and is offered free of charge to children and their families.

Based on the popular children’s book by Judith Viorst, the story revolves around a day in the life of a young boy named Alexander who happens to be having a really bad day.  From waking up with gum in his hair to having lima beans for supper, we see the trials and tribulations of life through a child’s eyes. Alexander’s rather trying day is set to music and brings to the stage one of America’s feistiest characters.  His struggles with life’s daily dramas will not only entertain, but also educate young audiences as they identify with Alexander and the obstacles he encounters, helping them realize that bad days happen to us all.  Recommended for grades Kindergarden to 5.

Family Week at the Theatre is an annual statewide festival offering free and discounted tickets to young people and their families and has been developed to encourage families to attend professional theatre together by making the experience affordable, educational and exciting.  Across the state, in all 21 counties, young people (ages 5 – 18) will receive free tickets to over 100 performances and special events including free classes, workshops and backstage tours.  Since its inception in 1998, the program has served over 45,000 young people and their parents with professional theatre performances and activities.

While this performance is offered free of charge for everyone, reservations are necessary.  For more information or to make a reservation, call the box office at (609) 344-8877, ext 11.  Dante Hall Theater of the Arts is located at 14 North Mississippi Avenue in Atlantic City.  To receive a full schedule of events for Family Week at the Theatre (March 5-13, 2005), please call 1-800-THE-ARTS or visit www.familyweek.com.
