I am required to begin this letter by saying that Bob
Levy is a liar.
It can be said because it was from the beginning of
Levy's sham candidacy for Mayor of Atlantic City, where he began by saying that
he was "kicked out of Atlantic City High School for dating an African-
American woman", that he established himself as a liar.
Levy was forced to come clean and admit that he
lied to the people, when he finally confessed to The
Press that this was all a lie, and that Levy had actually quit High
School for "other reasons" when he was at risk for
expulsion.
Bob Levy was highly critical of Mayor Lorenzo Langford
for not settling the Police and Fire Fighters contracts. Levy further said that
"this was a disgrace" and that he would settle both contracts "on my first
day as Mayor of Atlantic City".
At the time of this letter, Bob Levy is presently on
his 64th day as Mayor, and has established for the record that he has no
intention of settling either the Police or Fire Fighters
contracts.
Bob Levy has proven once again that he is a liar. I
called him out on a local Talk Radio program last week and challenged him on his
hollow, empty promise to settle both contracts for these brave public
servants.
Bob Levy lied when he promised a dozen or so Police
Officers and Fire Fighters, in an effort to secure endorsements, in order to
fool the public into believing that he had the total rank and file support
of all of public safety for his phantom candidacy for
Mayor.
Levy never had any intention of settling either
contract, and merely used the Police and Fire Departments to advance his
own political purposes.
It is interesting to note that on day one, Bob Levy
did keep one promise. That was his promise to Craig Callaway and his
family and friends, by attempting to raise their salaries by ranges of 26 % to
100 % per year.
Fortunately, the citizens of Atlantic City were quick
to respond to Levy's political deception and stopped him in his tracks,
with a Petition designed to prevent Levy and Craig Callaway from gouging
the taxpayers any more.
And, while Levy refused to answer my direct question
about breaking his promise to the Police and Fire Fighters, he had the gall to
say that both contracts are in arbitration and that both unions are
"happy with the situation", as if this were some new revelation to these
members.
I challenge the public to take the opportunity to
speak with an Atlantic City Police Officer or Fire Fighter, as I have
spoken with many. Ask them if they are truly "happy" as Bob Levy told me
last week. Ask them if they are happy to be awaiting a state arbitrators
decision on the award of their new contract. Ask them if they are happy
that Bob Levy, on day one, broke his word with them.
The sad part of all of this, is not just
exposing Bob Levy as the liar that he is. This is a well-established fact
by now.
Levy is nothing more than a political stooge, who
reads lines that are written for him by Craig Callaway and other political
operatives. So, I suppose Levy would have others blame Callaway and not him, for
having to break with promises that he
(Levy) made.
But, what truly saddens me is being forced
to reveal a betrayal of leadership by the heads of both unions.
These were leaders who proved that they were more
interested in playing politics in who would be the next Mayor of Atlantic
City, than they were in responsibly representing their members.
They could have settled a good contract years ago,
that was offered by a real Mayor, Lorenzo Langford, just as all the other city
unions, Police Captains, and Deputy Chiefs did.
In the end, however, the members of these two groups
should not continue to suffer for bad leadership.
Bob Levy should be compelled to keep his word. He
should pull these two cases from arbitration, and settle them in a manner
consistent to the way that similar contracts were resolved with the other
unions.
Bob Levy...you are a bad actor, reading poorly written
lines. It's time to start acting like a Mayor. Throw away the cue
cards!
Bob Levy... you should stop being a liar. You
can begin by honoring the commitments you have made to the best
and bravest in Atlantic City.
As the former President of the PBA and someone
who loves Atlantic City and still cares about public safety, I am urging
you to settle the Police and Fire Fighters Contracts now!
Respectfully,
Don P. Hurley
