Laptops for cops

By Derek Harper ,The Press (from AC Notebook)

1.  The Atlantic City Police Department is dangerously under equipped and understaffed, Bob Levy said in a campaign event Thursday in front of the Public Safety Building.

DPH:  [Bob Levy is ,and has been, the Director of Emergency Services for many years. If the ACPD is "dangerously under equipped and understaffed", as he now says, I would ask; where has Bob Levy been all of these years?]

2.  If elected mayor, Levy said he would push for computers in every patrol car, a move he said would make it safer for officers by giving them more information. It would also help the 911 operators, who now manually look up data on car stops.

DPH:  [I invite the public to please check what happened the last time Bob Levy was involved with purchasing Laptop computers for Police Radio Cars. They worked for maybe 30 days at most, and went on to become the most expensive coffee cup holders in history. Please ask how much Bob Levy spent on that wasted project approximately 5 or 6 years ago? This "deal" that Levy made, rivals his expert negotiations for 3 different cell phone plans and emergency radios for AC, where members can't even talk to one another.]

3.  Similar moves cut crime by 60 percent in Long Branch, he said.

DPH:  [Well than why didn't Levy cut crime here by 60 percent when we had them 5 years ago? (That's right, his useless computer system only lasted less than one month).]
4.  Levy, quoting "reports in the past," said the pawn unit with the vice squad could bring in an additional $400,000 with computers.

He also wanted to hire more police officers. The department has about 380 officers, about 40 less than four years ago. While a consultant report said the department was overstaffed, he said he disagreed with the findings.

DPH:  [Bob Levy was offered the post of Public Safety Director in AC by Mayor Langford just a few  years ago. If he were truly serious about public safety, why did he not accept the position and help Mayor Langford and the city? Levy refused by orders of his career political bosses, (the same ones that have put him up for this recent run for Mayor, in order that he could continue to be an obstructionist along with Craig Callaway against the Langford Administration).

Levy has never said the ACPD is understaffed before now, (campaign time).  He's never offered one solution to any public safety problem involving the Police. For 12 years Levy served as a functionary Lt to Jim Whelan, where they did everything from call the men and women of the Police Department "Mafia Gangsters", to freezing the wages of every police officer for 2 years and cutting the salaries of all new officers for seven years. And now Levy says we are not attracting enough good candidates, after his "disincentive program" with Whelan?]

Bob Levy has been in hiding since he announced he was a candidate for Mayor. He has only communicated through prepared statements, written for him by his political bosses, hoping to grab power and contracts in Atlantic City.

All Levy has done is switch places with Craig Callaway for this campaign. And although Derek Harper-Peele and most others in this area media are attempting to run cover for him, the people of AC are not being fooled by this race-baiting, stooged campaign of Levy.

And as far as "Laptops for Cops" go; Levy has already failed miserably. Just check the record.

Will Derek Harper-Peele do any real investigation of Levy before this campaign is over. Or will he just attempt to keep trying to mail it in for his guy, Bob?

Respectfully,

Don
